What is an intermediary bank?

When setting up your bank account in Hyperwallet, you may see an optional field asking for an intermediate account.

What is it for?

An intermediate account is a relay bank that helps process international transfers. Especially when the receiving bank is a smaller or local institution that can’t receive certain types of transfers directly.

Is it mandatory?

No, it is not mandatory. It depends on your bank:

  • If your bank uses an intermediate bank, you’ll need to fill in this field to ensure your transfer goes through without errors.
  • If your bank doesn’t use this system, you can leave the field blank.

💡 What if you're unsure?

We recommend contacting your bank directly. Let them know you’re expecting an international transfer via Hyperwallet, and ask if an intermediate account is required. They’ll be able to provide:

  • The name of the intermediate bank
  • Its SWIFT/BIC code
  • Any other necessary details to complete the Hyperwallet form
‼️ Important: Using an intermediate bank may result in additional fees. Be sure to check with your bank beforehand.
